Extra Questions with Toby Keith
MSM: Did you ever think of joining the military?
TK: I thought about it, but the oil fields were so good when I got out of high school that there was a great job waiting for me with my father. If the draft had been in place when I got out of school there would have been no way I would have missed it because I couldn’t have avoided it. My dad would have come and found me (laughing). The government wouldn’t have had to worry about me.
MSM: Do you fear for your own safety while visiting combat zones?
TK: No. We are traveling with the best – the United States Armed Forces. They are not going to let anything happen to me, and even if it did, I’d just look at it like it’s my time to go. We’ve been shot at a few times and we’ve been to a lot of places that have been mortared. The upside of that is that I get to leave in 17 days and those “poor bastards” have to stay through their deployments. It goes by like a blur to me and I know it goes by very slowly for them.
