TIPS to prevent unhealthy habits. Follow these guidelines to keep parties and buffets from ruining your health progress
by Whitney Bailey
- Keep set mealtimes. Even if a work get-together is planned, schedule and follow your normal eating time.
- Don’t fall into the fast-food trap. Although it’s OK to get the occasional to-go order, eating this way all the time means you’re consuming many low-fiber, high-calorie meals.
- Don’t skip breakfast or lunch. Doing so can just make you hungrier at mealtimes and more likely to overindulge or make poor choices at dinner.
- Finally, the easiest way to stop the food from getting into your mouth is to keep it from getting into the shopping cart. Think about your purchases, and don’t buy foods that you know you shouldn’t eat. Don't buy it if you wouldn't normally eat it.
This same rule goes for the time of your spouse’s return. Wanting to give your spouse all of his or her favorite foods is normal, and preparing or going out for a few special meals is fine. It’s when we want to fill the house with favorite foods that we get into trouble, and going back to a house filled with healthy alternatives can be difficult or nearly impossible. Prevent this by limiting unhealthy foods to a few select meals upon your spouse’s return, and you’ll find that eating healthy is easier than you think.
