Shipboard Stunners, Helicopter Hotties
by Melissa Meinzer
Gorgeous military spouses in fantastic clothes—what could be better? Oh, we know! Hunky Marines on helicopters and hanging out on ships in Pearl Harbor! Our team of milspouse models, stylists and a milspouse photographer in Hawaii spent a few days being fabulous aboard ships in Pearl Harbor and on helicopters in Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kanehoe Bay.
Whatever your personal style, it’s always fun to spend some time dreaming of what you’ll wear to homecoming. Would you take a conservative, traditional approach? Might you go edgy and high-style, like our models?
MSM cover model Duda Rodrigues, 19, has been married to her Marine for a year and a half.
To her own homecoming?
“I would probably wear that green dress,” Duda, who works child development—in addition to modeling and going to school—tells us. “I love love love dresses. I’d probably wear that green dress or anything else like it. Day to day I mainly stick to jeans and a T-shirt. Right now I have paint all over my pants.
The Brazilian-born beauty came to the US when she was about 7 years old. “My parents wanted the American dream,” she says. At first, Duda and her Marine did NOT click. But a few years later, “he asked me to hang out. I was like, ‘Oh, I guess.’” A few weeks of being joined at the hip did the job, and they’re enjoying their happily-ever-after, after a hard slog as a long-distance couple.
“It kind of actually reminds me of that movie Dear John that’s coming out. We sent a lot of text messages and phone calls. I wanted to do the letter thing.”
The early calls on the shoot days were eased a bit by coffee and bagels. Duda loved being on the Marine base: “That was great because it’s what my husband does! And we got to take pictures of guys with guns.”
And really, who can argue with that?
