pamper-yourselfPamper Yourself with a Day at the Spa

Save money by bringing the spa home.

by Megan Mooren

Have you ever had to give up your spa days?  Whether it’s because the economy is in the dumps and you simply can’t afford it or your husband has just transferred you to a base without a spa in 100 miles, living without simple pampering is a harsh reality that many wives currently face.  However, all is not lost.  If you can’t get to a spa, just bring the spa to you.

Having an “at-home” spa day is easier than most people think.  Invite a group of fellow base wives over to the house and follow these simple steps:

Music:
Any classical music or sounds of the nature album will do. If you have cable, odds are you can even find something suitable on the TV.

Food and Drink:
Do you have wine glasses?  Serve chilled water with cucumber slices and/or orange slices for that real spa feel.  Serve cut up fruit, and finger sandwiches (just cut off the crust).

Hair:
Buy a couple deep conditioner samples from the Commissary. You and your friends can each try one while your mask hardens.

Polish:
Take turns painting each other’s fingernails, and depending on how comfortable you are with each other, maybe your toenails as well.  Have each gal bring over her favorite nail color and swap.

Facials:
At home facials have become wildly popular as of late. You may have most of the ingredients in the house already.  Mash up 1-2 avocados and spread on the face, or make a mask out of 2-3  egg yolks.  Both ingredients make for an easy facial with real spa results. To mix up an exfoliant, take one part sea salt and one part baking soda.  To ease irritated skin, mix one part oatmeal with one part baking soda.

I joined a 24 hour club. I did because there was one in San Luis Obispo, Ca. and Santa Maria, Cs. What happen the Santa Marie sold out on 24 hour club to In Shape club. I have to come and go from these places. NOW, they want you to join both and only 20 miles or so apart.

Who has a key to your home? Even if the keys you were given say “do not copy,” chances are someone out there could gain entry if the locks weren’t changed when you moved in.
